Ghan back on track after flooding cut line to Darwin

Train back on track after flood waters wreck havoc

The infamous Ghan railway line is finally back on line after a brief interruption due to flooding waters over the past three weeks that left some passengers stranded.  The repair work occurred around 230km north of Alice Springs where flood waters had damaged the rail line, preventing any travel between Darwin and Alice Springs by the Ghan.

Around 100 metres of track was affected, according to Freightlink, which carried out the repairs on the track which was located between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

The flood damage left Ghan passengers stranded in Darwin and told they would have to wait several days before their trip could recommence. However further delays occurred after the delivery of the required equipment were also affected by floodwaters after heavy rain following the original floodwaters.

Earlier the Ghan was turned back to Darwin with most passengers then opting to fly on to their destinations rather than wait for the repairs
