Saturday February 14, 2009
Darwin resident, Maria Tomlins, 74, and acclaimed Northern Territory songwriter, Leah Flanagan, have composed a thank you song for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's apology to Indigenous Australians.
Maria Tomlins, who was a part of the stolen generation, launched the song on Friday, 13 February, at St Mary's Football Club in Darwin.
"I wrote it because I was there for the apology in Canberra and I really felt the Prime Minister was genuine," Maria told the Northern Territory News.
Both Mr Rudd and the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, have been sent a copy of the song that was recorded by the Northern Territory Music School in Darwin.
