Book Containing Correct Facts of Darwin's World War II Bombing to be Released in NT Schools

Friday February 20, 2009

As part of the 67th anniversary commemorations of the World War II Bombing in Darwin on Thursday, it was announced that a factual book would be released to Northern Territory and Darwin school children.

The book's objective is to ensure that it tells the truth about the Darwin bombings to secondary and middle school children in Darwin and the Northern Territory.

"One of my main motivations in writing the book was to broaden the understanding of this important part of Australian history," its author Peter Grose told the Northern Territory News.

An Awkward Truth will feature in every school's library, because it is an important event in Australia's wartime history, Chief Minister Paul Henderson said at the commemorations in Darwin.

In addition, Henderson spoke of a new scholarship for school students researching Darwin and the greater region of Northern Territory history, as well as World War II.
