Darwin Weather this Week Typical of its Wet Season
Monday February 23, 2009
Darwin weather is predicted to wreak havoc during its wet season, following its current monsoon with many thunderstorms this week.
Darwin was alive with an intense thunderstorm on Sunday evening, and its set to encounter more over the week due to a west-moving low pressure system across the Arafura Sea.
"It's probably going to become reasonably active ... Darwin's going to be in the firing line over the next couple of days." Greg Browning weather bureau senior forecaster told the Northern Territory News. "It';s funny how it can just change within a couple of days,"
Browning said the low is set to move west from Darwin towards the Timor Sea and squashes any concerns about it turning into a cyclone
"Even if it does stay over water we're not expecting it to develop much further," he said in the report.
While Darwin's monsoon has begun to slow down, thunderstorms and much humidity will build up.
"We're in a break period - the periods we have between the monsoons," Mr Browning said.
