Darwin Group Does Not Believe the Close the Gap Initiative Has Shown Much Progress

Larrakia Nation, an Indigenous corporation in Darwin believe that there is minimal evidence that the Closing the Gap initiative is taking effect.
The Closing the Gap of Indigenous Disadvantage initiative in Darwin and the Northern Territory to help overcome the great economic and social problems that Indigenous Australians have experienced, has been reported to have slow improvements.
"We haven't seen a slowdown in the pick-up of those services," said Larrakia Nation's Donna Jackson in an ABC Darwin Online report.
"Our staff are still stretched to the limits in terms of providing transport to doctors appointments, trying to find the very limited accommodation, night patrol and obviously the influx from the intervention, plus the extra influx from the wet season."
However, the Northern Territory Government says that the $300million project has in fact shown improvements after releasing its first progress report on the program that has been deployed to help close the gap.
