Northern Territory Tourism Operations Merge
Saturday March 14, 2009
Two Northern Territory tourism businesses launched a joint management project yesterday that will ensure their future.
The Battery Hill Mining Centre and the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre in the outback town are engaging in a joint venture, the Tennant Creek Foundation.
Lead by Central Australia former minister Elliot McAdam after he called for an inquiry into their finances, Regional Development minister Karl Hampton launched the foundation yesterday. The Northern Territory Government has said it will provide $258,000 each year to support the merger.
"These two facilities are economically, historically and culturally important to the community of Tennant Creek," Mr Hampton told the Northern Territory News.
"These local icons encourage people to learn and understand more about the region's culture, history and indigenous languages, while giving visitors another reason to spend more time exploring Tennant Creek and the region."
