Northern Territory Mine Back into Production and Also Expansion
Thursday March 5, 2009
Northern Territory's McArthur River mine known as one of the world's largest providers of zinc in bulk concentrate form is predicted to get back into full production and also has the green light for expansion.
The Federal Government has approved a $110million expansion program for the Northern Territory zinc mine and is now waiting to begin again.
McArthur River mine was shut down on 26 January this year after the law decided that it did not follow correct procedures when the Federal Government allowed for it to reconfigure from an underground mining to an open-cut site.
Around 30 workers travelled from Darwin, where they have been waiting to hear of the mine's future, to the mine's location in Borroloola.
The Northern Territor's McArthur Mine employs approximately 300 employees altogether.
