Northern Territory ARIA Star
Sunday May 17, 2009
Northern Territory's Australian Idol singer Jessica Mauboy earned an ARIA award on Wednesday night.
Mauboy was one of 11 artists who won an award at the ARIA No. 1 Chart Awards in Sydney for scoring a No.1 single, album or music DVD between January 2008 and April 2009.
Mauboy, Gabriella Cilmi and Wes Carr picked up ARIAS in the singles category, and Cut Copy, The Gyroscope, Presets, Shane Nicholson, Pete Murray, Kasey Chambers, Sneaky Sound System and Natalie Bassingthwaighte were celebrated for their successful albums.
Rock legends AC/DC picked up two gongs, for their album Black Ice and their music DVD No Bull Live: Plaza De Toros.
Australian Idol winner Carr said he was really pleased to have a No. 1 single, thanks to his hit You.
"It's great to have something that you put your heart, soul and body into as much as you can and (then) it's released into the public domain, and it's just a great tilt of the hat," Carr told the Northern Territory News.
"And I was just proud that I could sing a song that I could really dig my teeth into and start with that kind of a song."
