Northern Territory's Barunga Festival

Darwin and Northern Territory residents are anticipating the Barunga Festival commencing on 5 June and continuing until 8 June 2009.
The Barunga Cultural and Sports Festival 2009, located in Barunga in the Northern Territory is one of the nation';s biggest and longest-running Indigenous community festivals, celebrated over the Queen';s Birthday long weekend.
Showcasing contemporary Indigenous musicians from the Northern Territory in a 'Battle of the Bands' performance on the Saturday evening and a concert with some of the Northern Territory's most acclaimed Indigenous bands on the Sunday, the alcohol-free Barunga Festival promises to be an entertaining affair.
In addition to the music program, the Barunga Festival brings sport into the occasion, bringing participants from right around the Northern Territory including the capital, Darwin, and remote areas of the region.
Activities that you can participate in range from didjeridu workshops and traditional dances. You can also enjoy craft demonstrations and art exhibitions, spear throwing and bush-tucker tastings.
