Darwin's City 2 Surf a Success

Wednesday June 10, 2009

Over 600 runners took part in the Northern Territory News City 2 Surf in Darwin yesterday.

The 12km run began at the Esplanade and extended to East Point and around to Mindil Beach. Winner of the 2009 City 2 Surf in Darwin was Peter Eason who has won the race for the third consecutive year with a time of 41.07 minutes. His time was one minute slower than his performance at last year's race in Darwin.

Easton, 35, said that the morning's humidity had made running conditions a little harsh.
Despite his slower performance he was still about three minutes ahead of the second-place competitor. The Darwin runner was out in front from the very start and it remained that way throughout the fun-run's duration.

"I was pretty much on my own the whole way, so it was a long, lonely run," he told the Northern Territory News.

The first woman to cross the line was mum Lucie Hardiman, 38, who completed the Darwin run in 49.36 minutes.
